HOW FAST IS MY PC, HOW DO I MAKE IT RUN FASTER?
In the article below WM Tech Support will explain how to find out what the current specifications of your pc are and how to improve upon it's current running speed.
Also see our
forum for more information, or
contact us for help with a specific problem.
HOW FAST IS MY PC?
Click Start > right click My Computer > click properites and you will see what processor is fitted inside your machine and the amount of RAM installed. To run Windows XP with Broadband internet we recommend a minimum processor speed of 1.8ghz and minimum RAM of 512mb, the larger the processor and RAM the faster your computer is.
HOW FAST IS MY INTERNET?
We recommend you
click here and visit Speedtest.net, register for free and test your internet speed. Once the inspection has finished, as long as you've registered, SpeedTest will tell you ways to improve the overall running speed whilst online and recommends many useful Windows tweaks.
HOW CAN I MAKE THEM FASTER?
1. Keep the inside of your PC free from dust
2. Upgrade your processor or RAM if too small (see
here for photos and info)
3. Follow the steps outlined after you run a SpeedTest
4. Don't have too many applications running at once or at start-up (see below)
Having many programs running as soon as you start your PC will slow it right down and cause it to boot up very slowly. MSN Messenger, Nokia PC Suite, Kodak Camera Software, BitTorrent, Quicktime; all these programs will start when you switch on your PC unless you go into the options and instruct them not to.
